The reverse DNS have now mysteriously changed. It’s no longer got pro-music.org as a reverse, it’s “localhost” instead. Still, it’s already in print and the information was stored many places.

So their lame attempt of obstruction of justice has no effect - instead, they’re simply showing that they did something stupid and trying to hide the error. But the internets never forget. This is hopefully going to bite them in the ass.

I just got these papers sent to me from the Swedish government. It’s the letter from IOC regarding The Pirate Bay and the Olympics. They’re clickable.

I especially like how they claim to have contacted The Pirate Bay. The phone hasn’t rung. And I guess their e-mail probably got caught in the chinese firewall, since TPB is blocked there.

I’ve recently stated that I found IOC quite clever (but rude) to not contact TPB before going to the ministry. I stand corrected now - they are apparantly not clever enough to contact TPB but still rude.

Being in China probably makes IOC adopt the style of the nations leaders. I.e. do not talk to the people involved, just have conversations with their government. That’s the ideal way of making money, without hassle and morals.

The most interesting thing here seems to be that they seem to state that it can’t be ruled out the The Pirate Bay is not in Italian jurisdiction, at least partially. This must be a first! They’re not proving, they’re simply “not ruling out”, and that’s basis for why the site must be blocked. They also state that TPB is run by four people - I guess they’re listening to Ifpi all over again - when in fact, some of the people claimed to run the site do not. Guilt by association, again and again, over and over.

More, to show that TPB is a commercial entity is the policy on the site stating that you can be charged with a fine if you use the system for commercial reasons without prior consent. I don’t get it - how do that make it a commercial entity? It’s simply not wanted to use the site for spam, and that’s it.

Further, they also claim that TPB must be illegal since it’s using the name Pirate. It’s so stupid, this is something Ifpi has tried all over the world. We reclaimed the word Pirate. We see Pirates as someone who goes outside the main sphere, it has nothing to do with anything illegal. Ifpi has btw stopped using piracy as a swear word - they realised it was won over by the hearts of the pirates and that it was a glamourus thing to be a pirate.

But the MOST interesting thing is that domain I’ve never seen - angloamericanletting.com - owned by someone in the UK. It must probably just resolve to the same IP that TPB has (maybe a coincidence or maybe he’s just a fan). Sorry, but he’s now got an illegal domainname in Italy. I hope more people will point their domain names to TPB and let their friends have the links, let’s try and make like 10.000 domains illegal and listed in the filters of Italy. My sources say it’s about 4.000 domainnames in the filter today, wouldn’t it be awesome if it would more than double up just for the bay?

It’s quite interesting. It says that this site is blocked by the police in Italy and so forth, but check who owns the IP. It’s in the UK, not in Italy. And check the reverse of that IP - www.pro-music.org. A site owned by Ifpi in the UK.

My question is - why is Ifpi getting that traffic and are they logging our users? It’s in the UK as well, not in Italy.

Please, can someone explain this. To summarize - the police gives out information about users to Ifpi. Without any legal reason to do so.

What happens when your website gets scandalously blocked in another country that you hardly ever even been to? Well, most of the time you’re screwed. This time, we’ve got great lawyers - and the funny part is that TPB has never been particularily big in Italy. But since the block we’ve increased traffic from Italy… We gained 10 places on Alexa in Italy, and our own stats show a 5% increase in traffic from Italy (which has been quite stable before). It’s quite interesting and my guess (with background about what happened in Denmark) is that the site will gain even more attention over the coming weeks in the media and also get a lot of new visitors.

First of all, sports are not that interesting! Politics however is. Helping out promoting a country like China is not in anyones interest besides their oppressive government. I’m quite surprised that the discussions about China versus human rights have been so quiet during the olympics. In my opinion the olympics should never be held in a country like that.

I feel a bit sick in my body when I see that journalists are upset that they would have to use a restricted Internet during their stay in China - and that they’re OK with going there anyhow, when the restrictions are lifted for them, personally. It’s sickening! Everybody needs to demand freedom for the people, not only freedom for some lucky ones. It’s spineless.

During the trip to Bolzano Rasmus asked me a question about which programming language I felt was the most beautiful. My answer was quite quickly Assembly. In particular I feel that Motorola 68K assembly is very beautiful. The simple reason for that is that I grew up with it.

Ever since I got the question I’ve been thinking about it in the back of my mind. The question evolved into this: Is code art? It has many parallels. It’s easy - when you know how to. It’s beautiful - if you’re into that sort of beautifulness. It can be very complex - and it can be very simple. Simple code (and simple art) can be more estetically appealing because of the simplification.

C, PHP and other higher levels of languages is in my mind not that beautiful. Programming in a high level language makes you feel in control of the source code itself, not the computer. Assembly (and only assembly) is more of a conversation with the machine. You talk about what it should do, in baby steps and it follows. You’re the director, the producer and the machine is the actor. There is no middle man, there is a clean conversation between the two parties that are involved — or three, if you’re into handling more processors. It’s stunningly beautiful when you get it to work and you can trust it to always work because you’re agreeing upon what will happen at any stage in your conversation.

With higher level programming the control and the conversation is lost –  but can it still be art? It has to be, otherwise I don’t know why I’m smiling when I see my smart solutions. It’s another layer of the art of code. Instead of participating in a direct conversation, it offers you to reply to it. The end result can be just as good.

The conclusion — code is art, art is easy and it doesn’t matter how you participate as long as you do.
