I’m looking for someone who can sponsor me with an Amazon Kindle! It’s not possible to buy the device from Europe and it’s super expensive to use mailing dropboxes in the US.
Do anyone wanna help me out? I’m looking to make an interesting service together with some friends in the New Media Market…
Drop me an e-mail if you can help! My e-mail is peter at brokep dot com!
(For a background, please read Martins blog post about the book industry!)

Have you tried http://www.myus.com? I bought a mac mini from the US earlier this year, and even with US taxes added (since I shipped it between states first) and swedish fees, I came out ~1000kr cheaper.
I’ll look into it. I’m afraid the whole project will go on $8-900 with customs and so on, no money for that!
Last time I moved to a new apartment, when carrying book boxes, I promised myself not to but more dead-tree books if I can help it.
Have you looked at iLiard?
I bought the book edition and it’s great!

And, best of all, it runs open source on it!
One friend brought it from the US but it shouldn’t be a problem to buy it in Sweden (a little bit more expensive, though). The company which produces them is in the Netherlands.
Well,
unless your particularly interested in the Kindle, I might suggest the Hanlin eReader, it can handle more file formats then the Kindle and can be loaded via USB. It’s also cheaper than the iLiard.

This overview of all available dedicated eBook readers might help too:

I’m kind of eager about anything regarding eBooks, dedicated torrent sites poping up like mushrooms. Interesting stuff going on in that area. Publishers should be aware that most parts of Academia won’t tolerate the broken market for textbooks anymore.

ps: Second try, maybe my first post was eaten by the systeml
The main problem with kindle, and similar devices (
http://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/E-book_Reader_Matrix ), is the lack of direct pdf support. Most books floating around and the majority of all scholarly articles in the official archives are in pdf format. It’s similar to back in the days where mp3 was the de facto audio file standard but all the major companies still pushed for their own DRM damaged alternative formats for years and years.
Anything like: http://express.payloadz.com ?
If you ever get hold of a Kindle, please do review it. Looks interesting.
I suggest you to make some friends there and have it sent over to Europe. It’s certain important European friendships to certain important Americans that are the real true bastards moving behind this ridiculous crap! Believe me, there’s something going on here and people don’t have the slightest idea what this is all about and I know why. It’s not the market, it’s bullshit they try to sell to stupid hypnotized people.Come on! WAKE UP! WAKE UP PEOPLE! Seriously, they are stealing money from our pockets..wake up! The bastards or whatever you wanna call these pervert, sick people are vicious and criminals in their heinous intentions and actions. Again,WAKE UP! You really think: “Oh, in the US it is shipped. Oh, in the US it’s less epensive. Oh, they don’t ship stuff to Europe” WAKE UP! They don’t sell stuff to Europe because otherwise we were free to let them go fuck themselves cuz we wouldn’t need they’re fucking perverted controls.Wake up..You wanna buy items from the US. You can..just try to understand what this is all about and you will understand that there are ways your genious may find in order to avoid this sick denial prison-like mechanism.Again, WAKE UP!
The Sony PRS-505 is nice, I just bought one, it handles .pdf quite well. All formats tend to have a few problems with being enlarged, but that’s down to page breaks and bad text formatting. The SD and Sony Pro memory sockets work well, I have a 4GB SD and an 8GB Pro and they work fine.
Word format isn’t supported on the PC side software, haven’t tried just copy and pasting it straight onto the thing.

I’m a little confused here. Do you want someone to purchase the device for you…or are you going to send the money back to an individual who can obtain it and get it to you for less than it would normally cost you?
Do keep in mind the Kindle uses a 1900 MHz CDMA data modem which operates on the Sprint PCS network – such service is not available in Europe.
Fabio: You are a complete @#%&!. Wake Up!!!

P.S. Unless you’ve thought of something I haven’t, you probably don’t need a Kindle. Mobipocket Reader has almost the exact same features as the Kindle.

Seems Kindle2 on it’s way

If it’s a project that might strengthen the Kindle as a platform, perhaps Amazon might sponsor you with one (or a bunch)?
If nothing else, it would be fun to try.
fick du någonsin tag på en?
(har skickat på omväg vidare till en bekant som förut jobbade för företaget i fråga tills vidare)
antar att du o martin är efter något större än bara diktmarknaden? =)
Sponsor? PirateBay makes a lot of money and you want someone to buy a Kindle for you? How cheap can you get…
What’s the interesting service? Pirating e-books – that’s a great idea!
If you decide to use a parcel forwarding service, I would look into http://www.BongoUS.com
Straight forward, no hidden fees and great website technology. You can def save $ on a Kindle or eReader in the U.S., even with intl shipping tacked on.
Gammalt inlägg, men tyckte det var värt att nämna denna produkt.
