I just got these papers sent to me from the Swedish government. It’s the letter from IOC regarding The Pirate Bay and the Olympics. They’re clickable.
I especially like how they claim to have contacted The Pirate Bay. The phone hasn’t rung. And I guess their e-mail probably got caught in the chinese firewall, since TPB is blocked there.
I’ve recently stated that I found IOC quite clever (but rude) to not contact TPB before going to the ministry. I stand corrected now – they are apparantly not clever enough to contact TPB but still rude.
Being in China probably makes IOC adopt the style of the nations leaders. I.e. do not talk to the people involved, just have conversations with their government. That’s the ideal way of making money, without hassle and morals.

Peter, I’ve written a long explanatory post about the wrong understanding of the networking mechanisms in Italy and all related questions. I’m sorry it is in Italian, you can try with Google translation.
Original post is at:

Hope you’ll understand enough. If not, then drop me a note and I’ll translate any eventual sentence(s) not clearly translated.

Mark

So they want you to remove their “so important & copyrighted” videos, which no one got the time to watch all at once on TV anyway…
Are these guys even human, to demand such things? We all know by now that they know not much about the Pirate Bay, but they seem to know even fewer about the average human and their average daily free time…
Thanks for sharing the letters…

Just wondering – how is said minister supposed to “assist” the IOC?
Anyway, the whole concept of “intellectual property” is an oxymoron. As ideas cannot be made exclusive and others cannot be deprived of ideas, by definition ideas cannot be “property”
I would love to see your response to them.
I thought that the Olympics was supposed to be free, and accessible to all. If anything they should be paying you for helping to spread “one of the greatest ceremonies in the history of the games”. It sickens me to think something as noble as the Olympics can be corrupted by copyright law and intellectual property.
Keep up the good work!
(P.S. I heard you on the BBC about the davenport lyons case and how game piracy is supposedly becoming harder. Thank god we have people like you to offer counter arguments to the Anti-Piracy/Privacy scum)
(P.P.S. Did you know Piracy and Privacy only differ by two letters? What a coincidence!)
“gravely concerned”?
LMFAOPMP at the IOC tards…
The Pirate Bay FTfW (for the fucking win!)
I love that form letter to Beatrice Ask! You guys should write a book…
I didn’t even know the opening ceremony was available on TPB. Thanks for the tip IOC!
Loking at pics of Beatrice Ask I’ve come to the conclusion: She’s a MILF
Is that a fax number ^^
Let us all give them a hardcopy shall we.

Maybe they should have marketed and broadcasted over the most popular site amongst people who would watch the olympics on the net TPB!
Those Chinese people can go and f*** themselves , who has time to watch the games these days . i agree with crandom , we should have free access to the video footage if the games were so ‘important’.
Olympics are so fucking OLD. They belong to every single human on this planet. Who gave these retards the authority to make it their own private-corporate event like FIFA?

I noticed that the IOC hides behind copyright whenever it suits them. Take the wrestler Ara Abrahamian — the video footage of his questionable match is being heavily censored due to “copyright” but there apparently isn’t any problem with copyright law when it comes to the medal ceremony that shows his “poor sportsmanship.” Would the swedish government really just agree to all these ridiculous claims of “copyright” when they’re using it to screw over their own olympic athletes?
Funny they say they work to make it available to everyone on the Internet yet the NBC website blocks all Linux users. Assholes. That makes me consider pirating stuff not to watch (boycotting b/c China FTL), but just to piss them off.

Go IOC!!
Lets hold the Olympics in the most pirating country in the world. Human rights: non existent. Athletes: living in concentration camps(the Chinese at least for the last 7 years…). Freedom of speech: non existent.
Thepiratebay: Please remove the totally over the top, moneywasting(people are poor in China, doesn’t matter, spend spend impress impress) AWESOME ceremony from your servers.
Oh noez, some pplz might actually watch it again online to see how WRONG THE FUCKING CHINESE ARE!! AMAGAD!!!
FU CHINA!
Grtz from a sane country
PS: FU US
Funny that something coming out of China is complaining about piracy!
I am swedish!
I instinctively wanted to send the e-mail immediately!
Then I came to think of that this would have been to brag in a way. Also TPB wanted the world – the rest of the world – to express their view.
I guess I will end up sending one to her anyhow – just to show that she may be minister of justice here but she is actually not representative of my opinion in this matter.
I was actually supporting the political party that she represents but due to the adaptation of the “surveillance-law” by “force” recently, I obviously couldn’t be more distant from her view of democracy and the world!
She is the one that gives Sweden bad reputation and she is a shame of an open society and freedom of expression – not The Pirate Bay!
Keep doing what you guys do. Kudos!
Hi there…I am old enough to remember when American Dwight Stones was told NOT to wear his ‘lucky’ sweatshirt on the field….because it had a mickey mouse (he got no money from disney which was still family run back then) that was 1976 Montreal….fast forward to 1996 Atlanta – an american swimmer is threatened with LOSING her gold medal if she does NOT wear the nike logo at the awards ceremony.
I think that sums up where the olympics have gone pretty well.
I too have submitted a letter with my own comment at the bottom.
Keep Freedom Free! – Do not become another America, subject to the dubiously gained money of big corporations!
Blackie, USA
IOC is in Switzerland, not in China.
But this does not make them less morons.
Whats really funny is that the Opening ceremony, and the entire Olympics broadcast goes over the air for free to antenna tvs what is wron if I want to see that again, If I have a dish or cable I could record it and replay it whenever I wished.
You know what I think, they are just Using the Olympics as another excuse to destroy TPB. Plus they say that TPB is the problem while they hide their wrong doings….. sad….
The Olympic Games shouldn’t have been held in China in the first place.
That only shows that the IOC agrees with IMPERIAL dictaturial regimes, which don’t respect people’s basic freedoms.
Cheers,
PEdro.
I hope they contact you so we can hear your precise responds with such wonderously well thought out vernacular.
I find it very ironic they are concerned about people sharing olympic events over the internet, while holding the olympics in the country with the biggest copyright and intellectual property violator of the world.
My Letter to Beatrice:
The Flood Of The Bay
–
The Pirate Bay, and any p2p network, is vital to the world.
Why would you remove the site, other then the selfish reason as you want the IOC to host the Olympics in Sweden?
yall should feature olympic torrents to show absolute compliance.
im a chinese and i support u guys. our gov is trying to make a good fortune and reputation from the olympics. the normal citizens benefit nth from it and i say let them go fxxk themselves
The point here is that:
a) Piratebay has done nothing wrong since there are no copyrighted materials on their servers.
b) The downloader’s and uploader’s have done nothing wrong since sharing a DVD, CD, VCR, Blu-Ray disk or whatever with your neighbors and friends is both common and legal. That we now got better tools for sharing does not change the issue at hand. After all the artists and software maker have the same tools at their dispense and advertising has become much more effective through invading people’s privacy.
So if the privacy enthusiasts wish to better privacy they should instead of fighting to keep material meant for the public eye private they should rather fight the invasion of internet user’s privacy trough illegal tracking and spam.
Last but not least we should look into the fact that non US customers and viewers are being discriminated both financially, technologically and also in regard to the timeframe and other availability issues regarding so called intellectual property. The Piratebay does a great job eliminating some of the gravest effects these subversive oppressors have on the international community.
Keep on the good work!
Woot i dont want to watch em to me there a bit boring buts there corrupt has well its like its free not everyone on the planet can see it when its hosted half of which are in bed or a few days after n before its hosted the pbt is helping others who want to watch it but couldnt when it played live or was recorded and pbt HELPS spread the footage of the Ceromony
so keep it up tpb>:P
Where do they get there figures? A million copies???? Like anyone really wants to waste valuable hard drive space on the retarded olympic cerimonies. my mom stayed up to 3 am watching that crap on free broadcast tv, whats the differnce between someone who watches it by downloading it or sitting in front of the tv being brainwashed by as much commercial as program.
I wonder if this is at thepiratebay.org/legal
Go Bay!
THey are Fucking Retards.
THey wont win.
They wont get ANYTHING.
THe Pirate Bay will NEVER die
So let me get that right, a video that is directed and produced in a country that doesn’t give a damn about the copyright laws in the western world, should not be copied because the copyright law in the western world prohibits it? Very compellingly…
And who’s is surprised by the IOC legal experts en queuing in the long line of people who still haven’t understood how the world wide web works.
Love your work and totally agree with you on copyright infringement accusations: if they can slap a patent sticker on ideas and culture, than what freedoms are still left to us, as a people???
Anyway, I also liked your standardised letter but I took the liberty of writing my own, I felt it my duty to add my personal thoughts. Trust me, they were PRO you guys and AGAINST big-ass corporate stiffs who wish to decide the price of the human soul and its works. Also took it upon myself to compare with the excellent people of various LINUX communities, and how they are changing the way the human race views things such as “property”. LINUX rules, and in time, you too will rule supreme. Keep fighting the good fight, and give us our daily culture!

I would be inclined to contest the validity of this document. Although it would seem to be authentic I do not consider it to be so. Firstly the manner in which it is seemingly promulgated: any document of this manner would arguably be sent through diplomatic channels – in this instance from Lausanne, Switzerland to the Swedish legation in Berne, Switzerland where it would have to be registered as a document in the public domain as per Swedish law. It would not be faxed or e-mailed. It on the other hand it IS genuine, then the IOC need to take a long hard look at their communications policies and try and figure out just what they’re trying to achieve by communicating in such a spectacular fashion. Either way, the door is wide open, and the woman Lindberg could be seen as covering her own nation’s exposed parts by putting her signature to such a badly-worded piece of “number twos”.
Let’s take just one example of this: “prosecuting..a criminal action..” . One doesn’t “prosecute” like this – the word should be “persue”. That is, that the matter is “persued” until it reaches a court of law, after which the “prosecution” is attempted. If this IS genuine, then it’s only sabre-rattling again. “Further piracy of the olympics..” get me a chair I need to sit down. The only way of pirating the olympics would be to take over all broadcast functions (well hello it IS China) and control them. So much for the “unprecedented variety of platforms..” as if Television, Internet VOD streaming, er radio etc were new inventions never before encountered (well it IS China again..) but – spare me – how in the world can these be considered “unprecedented”? Did these people finish their schooling?
No, I’m sorry, but this is a remarkable work of rubbish. Bad enough as it stands, but if it’s ‘genuine’ as such, then a more “toadying”, anally-challenged work I would consider parting with money to see.
Whist I’m on the subject, let’s not forget about the “magnificent cultural work” there opeing ceremony was – yeah, with all its own in-bled (no joke intended) pre-animated fixes deceiving the world into believing the show was going on as we saw it… I can’t wait to see what they can achieve with the ending ceremony – maybe a re-run of China’s landing on the planet Uranus, because that’s where I’m convinced we’re all being led..
Althogh legal section claims, for at least one hundred times, that _no_ copyrighted material is actually hosted on thePirateBay, IOC still requires Sweedish minister of justice to help them out with “removal of unauthorised files related to blah blah”….
Why don’t you release a book, something like “BitTorrent for complete idiots”, or, as it seems: “BitTorrent for complete lawyers”?
Keep on doing good for mankind and greets from sunny Croatia
))))
If it is valid, then they really have their priorities backwards. If anyone was watching all the scam ticket sales they would see that the IOC should have bigger problems on its plate than this. Even athlete’s parents are getting scammed out of tickets through fake websites (Some of which many travel agencies even thought were legitimate.)
I personally have been boycotting the olympics due to the incompetency of the IOC.
Is it because of the little girl that mimed during the opening ceremony, or the computer-animated fireworks that contributes to the fact that they want to have control of the content.
The IOC officials should be ashamed of themselves.
China abusing human rights constantly (lives being shattered, classified rate of deathsentences, dare i say Tibet??), and they dare send a complaint because of filesharing.
Shame on them.
This proves that the IOC is nothing but a money making machine of stuck up snobs who will do anything to make a buck so that they can live their jet setting lifestyles.
For the repressed people of China, Myanmar, Sudan and Zimbabwe, the IOC don’t give a damn about you. They just want China’s cash.
PS the girl who was going to sing but didn’t has been executed, which is why you haven’t seen any recent pictures of her.
This world is not only USA-China only there are more than 200 country in world and billions of internet user and this is called “world of Internet” user
and for Swedish minister of justice let you know that Government is not for politics or media of IOC it about pupil country man and for team so ask public what they want not to US or China.
F*** money hunger Media
PPS amazing how the IOC keeps crapping on about laws even though it supports a regime that is constantly breaking human rights laws that the IOC members themselves enjoy as do those of the peoples in most countires in the world!!!! The irony! What hypocrites!!!!!
I’ve written a response also, I sure hope she reads them. TPB is a true beacon of hope in an ever increasing social decline due to corporate greed. I’ll stand by TPB always!
How funny is it that their attorney is named Stupp (shtup)?
Hi all,
I’ve seen a “X” guys says that the IOC is based in CH(Swizerland). I live in Swiss and I’ll be more than glad to go to Genève and kick their ass off. But the all IOC does not live in Swizerland.
And the IOC has no controle on the games, they “gave” the games to China and the Chinese gov’ can do whatever they want. Isn’t that outrageous, is it ?
Best regards,

As to the “adaptation of the “surveillance-law” by “force” recently,” it has coused a lot of anger in Norway as to ALL internet communications HAS to go physically trough Sweden it too will be under the surveillance-law.
The swedish minister of justice has been in the norwegian media-spotlight for quite some time.
the swedeish government will son have the ability to look into ANYTHING we do.
how’s that for giving a bad reputation.
it seems TPB stands for quite the opposite, and i glad to a part of it=)
PS: there are noumerous things that are WAY more important that piracy, take kiddie-porn and terrorism on the web for instance.
it seems it’s all for the money and politics…
I am now downloading the opening ceremony.
Simply because it will push up the numbers.
I have no intention of watching it.
The irony for me was that I was in Stockholm visiting friends when the ceremony took place!
Power to the PBay
They probably want to release an opening xceremony dvd or something. bastards
I am loving your work at TPB, guys. Keep it up.
By the way, it is been years since I got the idea that the Olimpic comitee is formed by a bunch of very corrupt motherfxxxxxx…. this is coming to confirm it.
Det är rätt underhållande att det är en svensk som skrivit breven. Detta eftersom hon rimligen bör känna till rättsläget i Sverige.
Have they ever released an “Olympic Games Opening Ceremony” DVD ? Boy am I stupid if they did… but i honestly have never seen any. What’s the big deal ?… Stupid IOC…
[...] Orginalpost: (f)IOC YOU [...]
but hey!! what is that they re talking about? they re really afraid of the money they re loosing of the spectacle of the olimpic games? The IOC? The chinese gov? Is that all?
I think what is up here is that the fact of having olimpic games is an excuse to go and advertise against tpb. I mean: its been a while since companies and goverments want to take over p2p and free culture. But they know that what gives power is public opinion. not worldwide, but in the countries that are involved, their laws, or power or whatever is targeted as a problem or an advantage.
What would happen in swedden if the campaign continues about tpb?
ok, Well now there is allready a minister of justice, in sweden, talking through the radio, to the swedish people, about how tbp is bad for them… thats nice advertisement.
The IOC is just an excuse, present, used to change what the swedish people think of tpb, so in some time, they think, they can finish tpb, having the support of their swedish people. I guess that if that minister is over there is because more than half of the swedish people voted her or her party. I think them calculations are more or less in this way. Maybe to changing the constitution or who knows.
Anyway I sent the letter to her. just changed one sentence because I was in sweden for a while. I m afraid when I read that she thinks “the world” s thinking bad of sweden because of tpb. Who s world is this? obviously not the one tpb is fighting for. maybe people like the IOC is the world for her, and that I m afraid is the cancer spreading through the polical power.
Anyway, the fight here doesnt seem to be between IOC and tbp, through the minister of justice. it s more like IOC and the minister are in the same team against tbp, through the swedish people.
KEEP ON FIGHTING !!! and thanks a lot, you guys are the torch of the web freedom.
I am a believer that the Olympics are meant for the people and that the Olympics have been stolen from the people by the greedy. Since most countries use public funds to make the olympics happen for them, the olympics should not be copy righted to begin with. This is an outrage.
Go TPB.
This is so funny. I can’t believe the IOC would even bother to write this letter. They are just worried they will lose money by not being able to sell the over-prived DVD of the opening and closing ceremonies to poor people indoctrinated to think that they Olympics really means anything worldwide. Respect to all the athletes involved, but how can this be a cultural event when held in a nation that doesn’t allow free speech and persecutes its people and sister nations.
they don t want us to share, is not because of the money that IOC or whatever big company lose, its because share is the absolute opposite of what they ve been defending the hole past sicle. it s almost comunism for them, its a big concept threat, ideological, and that s why they have to fix it.
I didnt know the opening ceremony was on the pirate bay. I missed it on TV so im going to go download it now!
Thanks
aND SO WHAT!
Fuck IOC,….
who cares about the stupid Olympics ceremony, itz worth noting.
And moreover they are infinite wayz to share that crap!!! ceremony without u knowing dat!
thepiratebay.org has no HAND IN THAT!
someone uploaded that shit and now someone downloads that shit WTF do u (IOC) want from piratebay??!!………….WHat??????????????
I didn’t know either, as many others, that the ceremony could be downloaded on TPB, so thanks IOC!
(stupid IOC, sigh)
Gee, I thought the olympics was meant to be about bringing the world together in peace and harmony, not squabbling over a few dollars.
I think my taxes and products I buy subsidise enough athletes already. If I had my way these athletes would use their own money to run around in circles for 6 hours a day, and whoever wanted to watch this crap would pay the full cost, (if they love it so much). Same for all professional sport.
They do release DVDs of opening ceremonies, but usually highlights. I’m pretty sure there was one for Sydney 2000

I did record the olimpic games innaguration on my VHS machine and that´s not a crime I think. I feel sorry about some people that think to have all rights on everything on earth. Personally I didn´t realized that this event would going to have such a problem as to put it somewhere for sharing. What if thousands of people in china would record this even and now they are sharing that with everybody??
these people are probably more concerned with the 720p and 1080p versions that are out there of the opening ceremony, but regardless it was a great opening ceremony why shouldnt people be allowed to see this in the highest quality possible? No wonder why people are loosing so much interest in the olympics. they come around once ever 4 years, there is crime and corruption inside the olympics. And from what i heard, if there is a controversy over a decision or a bad call, THEY DONT EVEN REVIEW THEIR OWN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY TO PROVE WHO IS THE REAL WINNER.
“I came here from gold, i dont accept bronze”
“Jag kom hit från guld, i dont acceptera brons”
“?????????????????”
“Sono venuto qui da oro, i dont accettare di bronzo”
I download like everyone else but it seems to me you guys relish the attention like a teenage girl. Just do your job and get the servers on. I personally could care less about the threats you get. Keep it to yourself.
I don’t really want to see the opening ceremony but I think I will download it to increase the numbers and piss off the IOC
I must sasy that if there is anyone more ingenious and ridiculously stupid and daring when it comes to violate right it is the F*****G CHINESE. Why dont they talk about all the Human rights violation that occur just so that the Olympic games could go on. Or the fact that their technological advances is based on copying what other countries have done.
These darn communist need to be feed to the voltures as they are pros in violating rights and infringing upon individual private and freedom of expression. How many Chinese athletes have given any declaration about anything? NONE simply because if they talk they know what could happen. Look at the little girl that sang on the opening ceremony? Just because she was not charming enough she could not appear singing? WHERE THE FUCK IS THAT KIND SICK AND TWISTED MENTALITY IS COMING FROM?Imagine the shame and emotional scar on that little girl (not cute enough for the Olympics). Of course in her declaration she said (“”) that she was satisfied that her voice was used even if she did not appear. I could bet my life that she was told to say so other wise things would have gone wrong for her and her family.
In my personal and humble pount of view. I must admis that the Olimpic games is a rather nice and peacefull wya to breing countries (conflicting or not) together to share a harmonious, frendly and unifiying sports competition. How ever now it has become a matter of ONLY COMPETITION. We talk about world huunger, fammin, poverty, etc, yet does anyone know how many billions of dollars was spent on these (2008) Olimpics?
Honestly with all the human right violation alone, if it would have been my call, I would have said NO TO THE 2008 OLYMPIC GAMES.
Sorry if it may seem to much to say, but the fact remain that to many people have sufferd just so that we could be entertained. ASK YOUR SELF THIS QUESTION. IS THAT FAIR? WHAT IF YOU WAS ONE OF THE SUFFERING ONES? WHAT IF YOUR FAMILY WAS ONE OF THE SUFFERERS?
JUST TAKE A LOOK BELOW

And this shit goes on and on
If the ceremony is intel.prop. than torrentz and esp. The Pirate bay.org is too!!
By the way, intel. prop. is limited: F.Y.I: if you chose to send a programm on air worldwide, everybody can record the ceremony… When somebody else watches the seremony with me… how are they gonna charge for that?? money making idiots!!
Most interesting is that China which is resposible for more than 70% of fake and immitation/copies world wide is used in a discussion about Intel.Prop. hahaha
IOC=FIFA=MAFIA
I do salute TPB for their artistic work, I was a networker working for certain rural internet company here in Tanzania E.Africa, from the time when I saw them on bbc.co.uk/click, they motivated me from the first day, I started learning programming and have a dream of becoming one of indexers in Africa doing the same thing for its costly getting access to Info and poverty is the major draw back, all I came to know that free is the cheapest all over Africa,P2P and files sharing is the only solution that would free us when it comes to news info and entertainments, all medias are for subscription. I dowloaded tons of books for reference, hopefully in the coming 2-3 years I myself will become one of Serious African Programmers here in Tanzania, Keep the spirit of good work, you saved me time and money to go to school, there are thousands of talented young Africans who can’t reach their goals because they can’t get access to books and learning materials, TPB is the serviour, God bless U all and curse the IOC, and all those copy righted companies, they can’t blame me sharing my african DVD with anyone, Madam Minister , you should let the boys maintain their path and save the world in all fields of tech and entertainments. Again I thank TPB they made me dig in books and am happy am learning, stoping’em will let down enthusiastic learners like me. lastly the IOC and chines has pain in A**.
Please take the time to call up Sweden and show your support for The Pirate Bay. You can find a list of numbers on this website:
http://www.sweden.gov.se/sb/d/2078
I suggest you call one number now while you are thinking about it but then print it out and call one number at a time as you drive. This way it will not eat into your personal time. Once you reach the bottom of hte list start over.
I tivo’ed it through digital cable, play it back constantly on my 60in HD Plasma, and show all my friends and neighbors when they come over. Whats the difference?
Is the IOC gonna mail an angry letter to my government next?
Also, if someone wishes to contact me in response my address is:

Haha! China against piracy, LOL!!!
Wasn’t it said, that in China, it actually is a compliment to be copied, because it shows that the stuff you did is good???
more entertainment for the masses to keep their minds off of the important stuff, like human rights violations and WTO.
this olympics are chinas vehicle for legitimization of their dictaroial regime. they shouldn’t be surprised when the people rise up against them, after all thats how they got there in the first place 100 years ago.
fight the good fight with TPB
well i for one didn’t get to see the opening ceremony so im glad that you had it up there i don’t know why it would be such a big deal since i know a few ppl who actually filmed it those #@%* are just screwing around with things they don’t know about. besides i would have gotten from somewhere else it would just have been more work.
so keep sharing
and I’m proud of the things you have done. the pirate bay one of the best things that Sweden has.
and may God never let your site get closed
Do you think they wouldn’t have minded the piracy if the piracy hadn’t been rampant?
They seem to be just as concerned with the rampancy as with the piracy.
Very silly letter.
Go Sweden!
Is everything about money? Can we watch nations come together without someone screaming, “I want money!!!”
All of these major companies will survive just fine with the pirate bay around… They just want an extra billion or two in their pockets and they are willing to throw people in jail to get it…. Well fuck them!!
Hahaha like the chinese don’t piratecopy clothes and anything else they can, i love to see the swedish athletes and the swedish officals bags if there are any piratecopied clothes in them.
Just because of this i have to DL the opening ceremony.
I bet you all of the politicians that went there have bags of stuff for their relatives.
well i suppose it’s better to torture and kill people and blocking information than downloading stuff from TPB………. you ppl must be pure evil
Almost a 110 years ago, Pierre De Coubertin, used the “Ancient Greek Olympic Games” trick to unite the world for a few days, through sports.
He managed to achieve his dream almost a century ago, in Beijing 2008 (205 participating countries).
Yet, his birthchild, IOC is the one that is trying to divide the world, using such disgusting words such as ‘copyrights’, ‘profits’ and ’sponsors’.
I say we…. FUCK THEM!!!
Either way, Olympics after Munich 78, have always been the Dope Games. So much hype, for a blinky parade with puppets full of steroids.
And yes, I missed the starting ceremony and very gladly downloaded it, just for the fun of it.
Jacques Rogue, you made it to the Rogue List.
The Opening Ceremony had computer generated fireworks and a singer who mimed due to the actual singer not being “asthetically pleasing”. Not something you would think the IOC would describe as “one of the greatest opening ceremonies in Olympic history”. So fuck them…. keep up the good work TPB. Cheers.
So I could watch the whole thing for free on my telly (not that I did), but I cant download it and watch it for nothing on my ‘puter (not that I will) because its copyrighted. Where’s the logic in that?
zz.. they should be thanking you for your help in distributing the olympics, i assumed the Olympics was free for all to view ? Or did they decide that is not the case ?
I don’t even have a TV at home… so plainly I wouldn’t be watching the Olympics at all if kind people weren’t capping it and making it available for others in my situation. And as for paying for VOD services, I’d sooner actually go buy a TV and watch it for free. If I were you, I’d, very kindly, tell the IOC to go fuck themselves.
Sam.

Sinceramente,
O mundo não está preparado para a revolução digital.
A nova era.
Nem No Brasil, Suécia, ou qualquer que seja a nação.
Más, a resistência sempre existiu, e os pirtas digitais estão na frente.
Parabéns.
If only the IOC was after enforcing rights like this everywhere …
What is the problem??… p2p file sharing has been going on for years, they cant say their surprised this happened! they need to deal with it like those who own all the other copyright materials we share every day and for those of u who think its illegal and morally wrong i say… Fuck YOU!!! its free…. learn to enjoy a good thing… i love TPB

plus we pay for it by using our bandwidth on it!!!!!!

If the IOC wants removal of all media relating to the 2008 Olympics from The Pirate Bay, I say – give them what they want!
I do not wish to see the 2008 Olympics and I ask you, my fellow pirates, why would you want to see the 2008 Olympics? Are you not aware of the social issues in China that are caused directly by these Olympics? Can you simply NOT WATCH the Olympics?
My view on these Olympics is that anyone taking part in the Olympics, or even watching the Olympics – is making a bad moral decision and should be weighing the consequences of their action carefully. Boycott the Olympics instead. Make them (the chinese government and the IOC) see that you care about the freedom of speech and human rights. Do not even watch the olympics – at all – in any form. And if you have your favorite athlete competing in the Olympics, let the athlete know you wish they’d skipped the Olympics this time because of the farce that China has made it to be.
China should never have been allowed to host these Olympics.

And quite frankly, on another note, organizations/companies should not be asking to have their media removed from The Pirate Bay. If they had the least bit of sense, they’d realize they are the ones who SHOULD BE BEGGING TO HAVE THEIR MEDIA ON THE PIRATE BAY. Yes, it is more valuable for a company to have it’s media/software ON The Pirate Bay, than off it.
TIP TO COMPANIES: Feel free to test this. Once your software (or any other media) is downloadable as a full version on The Pirate Bay, customer demand for purchased copies of your software will increase as the number of downloaded copies increases. There is a slight delay to this effect and your product will have to be good enough to actually be desired by potential customers, but if it is – having a “pirated” copy downloadable from The Pirate Bay, will only be beneficial to your sales.
It’s really funny how the Olympics are supposed to be an international exchange of culture and goodwill, yet the IOC seems to be very intent on keeping everything to itself unless you’re willing to buy it from them.
They show their true colors with actions like this and their overzealous attempts to protect their precious trademark.

In their spirit of peace they still uphold a ban on Iraqi athletes as well.
i love tpb and would die if you were to get arested but i also agree with iwouldntsteal.net mahahaha so FUCK the IOC and all there non-pirateing failures would you like a 500$ program free or would you like to pay the 500$ hmm? you fucking son of bitch IOC???
It makes me chuckle that they still think people upload ‘files’ to TPB.
P.S. My hat is fully off to you guys at TPB. The global network we call the web is paid for by consumers and it must remain in our hands!
Just because I consume my media via this source does not mean when something of merit is on offer I won’t pay for a SUPERIOR version with a shiny box and extras.
Charge a REASONABLE price for your output or drop your budgets media types. You have got away with ripping us all off for too long.
This is written by a man with over 300 VHS tapes, 100 DVD’s and 300+ audio CD’s bought as ORIGINALS not to mention a sh*t load of games and software.
You’ve had your cash off me when you deserved it. If Hellboy 2 is THAT GOOD, I’ll buy it. I support those ARTISTS I respect and feel deserve the price asked for ‘ligitimate goods’
As for the O/C of the O/G. Get a life, it was BROADCAST. It’s PUBLIC DOMAIN as far as I’m concerned.
Peace. x
Moo. I R Tauren! I visit BAY alot.
*eating grass*
oops, did you own that grass?
(email address on file with PB) I just wanted to laugh when I heard all of this. In my business of mounting Samurai Swords I do business with many many foreign countries. I did business with ONE single company in China and 3 unheard of companies called me several times to “make me an offer.” Their offer was to “copy” the other company in China and mimic their product. They guaranteed I could pass them off as authentic and make a lot of money on each one. It amazed me and after research I learned they sold my personal information including CC info which is how these other companies got my information. One actually asked “would you like us to charge your MasterCard today?”
The Chinese folks have NO right to cry copyright in my book. They produce more bootleg copies of movies and the like than you can shake a stick at. Ebay is FULL of sellers offering their wares from China and ALL illegal as heck. At least us individuals share things among friends all over the world. We do not make profit from sharing simply trying to help other folks out.
If this is all over Olympic games in China?!? Then remove the links folks posted. Who cares about some disgusting militant country that screws its citizens? Host the olympics. Hell keep them for all we care. Do you think we actually want to watch Hitler’s Theatrical presentation of how he’s a nice guy? China is in about the same boat in my book as him. USA might be a money mongering whore thanks to folks like George Bush our current president; at least though we don’t kill our babies and execute folks with the same ease we pop popcorn.
Besides the whole “you can’t broadcast this on your site” cry is a bunch of crap. Its free casting because its on NBC here over the air so even an open antenna can get it.
China if you want to impress me then wise up. I’ve noticed folks will RUN from reporters trying to get info on “how it really is” one man even commented he would likely be tracked down and killed if he remarked his and others true feelings & then he literally ran off.
What a shame to have such a proud and ancient nation such as China move themselves into a state of shame to the entire world for their treatment of rights and individuals as they have over the last few years. Then to pull a “copyright” out of the hat. How sad. Thank GOD we have Japan to show the world how the “Oriental East” should be.
I might live in a “money driven country” BUT at least I can say my senator or prime minister sucks ass and not be shot or jailed because ALL are entitled under GOD to express their opinion. Free enterprise rules and for the shortcomings we do have in this or that, we can look to the one free port in the world Sweden and to the folks at Pirate Bay to help continue the freedom. Pirate Bay isn’t “Bad” it isn’t “illegal” Its simply a reference point for hundreds of thousands of world wide individuals breaking down walls and bringing us all a little closer together which we all should be. We aren’t a “nation” we are a “world” of users who want our home away from home to be safe.
This isn’t a few users in one country like Sweden asking for rights. It’s a WORLD of users and people asking you to help us maintain our rights to help out other folks with references and ALL of us in many many many countries are looking to Sweden to lead the way in freedom.
To be honest; before I knew a thing about Sweden I knew it was FREE and neutral. Now I’m wondering if all my visits have been to a country I didn’t know.
I just hope the officials in Sweden realize what FREEDOM means to the world. It should state an honor that hundreds of thousands of people via Pirate Bay come to Sweden to seek freedom and expression. I only hope politics doesn’t kill freedom and thereby cast Sweden in a VERY BAD LIGHT to the free world. If they outlawed Pirate Bay that basically would be an admission that “yep we are just like China, USA & many others.”
Those greedy corporate people out there are soo busy getting every penny that are totally out of touch with reality. When does those greedy people will ever get it?
If i don’t want to buy a DVD, pay for cable, or rent a video game, no Copyright Law in the world will force me to do it..!!!
I’ll go to watch cable (or play that videogame) at someone else’s house, borrow the DVD from a friend, or I’ll simply….
go hike instead.
So there is NO FKN WAY they will ever get my money…!
GO BAY, GO…!
They are concerned because all their efforts at protecting the media have been for naught…
First of all, it’s the olympics ~ and SHOULD be available to anyone who wants to watch. Buying the ‘exclusive’ rights to something like that is absolutely crazy… They simply wanted to control and take a crapload of our hard-earned money to watch something that should be available to ALL anyway!
Let the babies whine over their own stupidity… I hope they lose ALL their monies they spent so insanely… just to capitalize on the Olympic games. Serves them right!!
LONG LIVE PIRATE BAY & BIT TORRENT.
BTW… Pirate Bay does not control what is “referenced to” via torrent. It is a USER that actually has the videos…
And to tell me or anyone that they are absolutely forbidden to share stuff is just insane! I will share what I want, when I want and no one has the right to stop that…
thanks for fight for our REAL rights !
[...] is not pleased seeing their shows on BitTorrent sites though. Yesterday they even sent a letter (read it here) to the Swedish Minister of Justice, urging her to take on The Pirate Bay. From the letter, it [...]
Dear Peter,
great that you posted the letter. Those IOC people are nutters! Hello??
I was wondering if it ok with you if I post those letters on my blog as well? The latest entry is about what happend to you and I also mention your excellent blog there with a link back to here. If not please let me know and I will remove it.
Another question if you have time: I very much like your commenting system/setup/style. Is there such a theme for blogspot too? Currently I am trying out haloscan but am not convinced at all. Would love an easy and neatly designed commenting system. If you got any info or help towards this please let me know.
I am happy that I came across your blog and like it very much. Keep up the good work. We all fight for our freedom these days, on- and off-line and I’d rather die fighting for it then sit there and watch more and more rules being imposed on all of us. Stand up and get them!
Regards,
Mr
Its unfortunate how idiotic people are.
It says in the first letter, that the IOC in association with its partners, have worked long and hard to make the Beijing Games available on many medium and everywhere in the world to see.
Too bad for me then, when I tune in on NBC using my directv, i get a message “this program is not available in your area” on a black screen.
So, in conclusion, I must be living on Mars or something.
We love you Pirate Bay, keep up the good work.
xx
Everyone
If China becomes a bona-fide democracy, abolishes the death penalty, provides decent healthcare and social security to its citizens, allows full free speech and stops torturing people (in a nutshell: becomes more like Sweden) PirateBay will remove all trackers for the opening ceremony. How does that sound?
Come on, IOC, get those lawyers writing those cease-and-desist letters to the Chinese government!
Yeah right. Friggin’ hypocrites.
[...] for “publishing” videos of the opening ceremony for the Olympics. Apparently, a letter was sent to the Swedish government from IOC, asking Beatrice Ask of the Ministry of Justice to somehow deal with the material found [...]
