Swedish Radio P3 Nyheter published a small radio interview today with two owners of a Cinema in Sweden.
They are some of the hundreds of Cinema owners in Sweden that have signed a petition to stop file sharing since they claim it’s theft and that they will have to close down if file sharing is not stopped.
There are two interesting things in this interview. The first one being that the reporter asks them about the research done on the area saying that people that file share tend to go more to the cinema then other people - and the cinema owner says it’s just a lie and that he doesn’t believe it. This is exactly the same results I’ve got from the big corporations. Recently I was in a televised debate with Bert Karlsson - who’s a mixture of a record label CEO and a clown. He claimed that “research had nothing to do with real life” and that it was “humbug”. This seems to be a trend from all of the industry - to claim research is bogus. I can’t understand why they won’t listen to the research and use that information.
The second interesting thing is that they’re going to try to force the government to ban file sharing. But they’re not trying to ban home cinema systems, projectors, big screen tv’s, home audio systems. Those things are a much bigger competitor for the cinemas than file sharing. But it wouldn’t be reasonable to fight things that they know people would laugh about…
