Just read about Torrentspy and Isohunt starting to self-filter.

So, the parts of the BT-community that I personally do not like (Isohunt for instance) are shooting themselves in the foot. Trying to hide what they do, trying to be legit.
Justin has started something he calls FileRights.com. I see the business model in it, he tries to make money on sleeping with both sides.
Ok, so first of all – Justin, you know this is not going to work. The way BT works makes this so easy to avoid. Maybe that’s what you’re expecting? Playing hide & seed maybe?

Second, if it would have any impact at all, it means that you will lose visitors to other sites. Hopefully, it will mean that. I really do hope it means that, otherwise I’m afraid for how little people care about their own rights. Yes, the peoples rights, not the right holders rights.
What this will probably boost is a new wave of torrent sites and trackers, which I would really love to see. There are too few sites and trackers right now, things have been to concentrated to the big sites and that really sucks!

I really love the small specialized sites, I hope to see more of them. I would love to help out with starting up more, but it’s also important that we who already run sites do not start more of them. So public message to people – start up your own torrent sites, make the internet the hydra it is and needs to be. If there’s hundreds of sites, they can’t all be shut down. And well, if they shut down the few that are today, there will be hundreds of sites, I’m sure, but let’s start them before so we can spread the word of them easier.

FileRights.com states “Relax, Knowing your content is being removed from the internet”. Ok? So that means what? Come on. There no such thing that will work. Or will you also in the next step of the system demand logs of the users that downloaded the content, so when a right holder puts up a torrent or hash he automatically gets the IPs that downloaded the same file? Maybe a good next step Justin. I know you’re scared and I can understand that. But if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen – don’t blow it up so nobody else can cook.

Who checks that a copyright claim is correct? Who downloads all those files and checks them out to see if they are what they seem to be? What happens when the right holders start censoring other peoples content as well, maybe out of moral or maybe for a competing company?

Censorship is always bad. No matter what reason, it can and will always be something that people will abuse. And we see more and more of it. Flickr.com got pushed into censoring pictures for germans, ISPs shut down sites more and more often. Do we want this generations communication to be this limited? I can only answer for myself, No. And I will do everything in my power to not let that happen. I promise to keep coming up with new sites like The Pirate Bay, Bayimg and Slaskpost.

So fuck you filerights.com. Thank god that technology is smarter than some of it’s users.
